worship-spaceWe are created to praise God – and so worship is our central and fundamental practice as a congregation.  When we worship, the Spirit is gathering us together as church.  We enter into God’s time.  Through the Word and Sacrament of worship, God gives us nourishment for the journey.

Through the words we hear and speak and sing in worship, through the bread and wine and water of the sacraments, the Spirit convinces us of God’s grace and forgiveness and salvation.  We are formed to be joyous people!  And, the Spirit forms us to be people who hunger after God’s mercy and justice for the world.  All of our ministries, as followers of Jesus in our day-to-day lives, arise out of the nourishment we receive in worship.

At St. Stephen, we worship in the rich tradition of the Lutheran childrens-sermon-early-service-1liturgy because the liturgy invites us into a depth of God’s presence.  Throughout the year, we use four different musical settings from Evangelical Lutheran Worship, as well as Holden Evening Prayer.  Our worship singing is accompanied by organ, primarily, and also by piano and guitar.

We celebrate Holy Communion at each Sunday morning worship service.  Pastor Ballentine’s preaching is based on one of the morning’s appointed Bible readings, bringing to life God’s Word in those ancient words.
