We Raise Our Voices to God

We at St. Stephen Lutheran Church have a long and proud tradition of leading worship services with music that provides spiritual fulfillment. Much of it is lead by our beautiful pipe organ, but we sometimes get to enjoy music from piano, guitar, and other instruments. There is a great combination of productivity and positive energy in our ensembles and everyone is welcome to sing and join our ensembles.

Two choirs lead the congregation in singing the various hymns in each service. (Lutherans love to sing!) We primarily use the Evangelical Lutheran Worship hymnal, but sometimes include hymns from other traditions. The two choirs also offer an anthem during each Sunday worship service from September through May. Other singers and musicians are welcome to offer a special anthem during the warmer months.

Matins Choir – 8:30 AM

The Matins Choir sings a variety of musical styles, ranging from the timeless classics to ones of our current era, such as folk, praise and worship, and ethnic. The repertoire is typically in two or three parts for mixed chorus. This choir rehearses on Sunday mornings for 30 minutes immediately following the 8:30 worship service.

Chancel Choir – 11:00 AM

The Chancel Choir also sings a variety of musical styles and consists of a full compliment of SATB voices that can take advantage of some of the more challenging choral music. This choir rehearses on Wednesday evenings from 7:00 – 9:00 PM during the school year.

Instrumentalists

From time to time, we are blessed by the music of other instruments such as violin, flute, French horn and trumpet. Instrumentalists are encouraged to share their talent, whether it be for a solo piece or a descant on a hymn or a choir anthem!

Organ

Our pipe organ is a Petty-Madden, Opus 27, built in 1990. You can read more about it here.
