  Welcome

Thank you for your interest in St. Stephen Preschool. Our holistic approach offers a variety of opportunities for individual and group participation. We strive to develop strong self-help and school readiness skills, encourage creativity, and provide engaging language arts and math activities.

  Mission Statement

We provide a kind and friendly atmosphere in which each child will expand his/her cognitive, social, physical, and emotional development, focusing on positive self-concept and an enjoyable preschool experience.

We introduce preschool members and their families to the St. Stephen congregation and ministry, and to invite them to become participants in the study of God’s word.

Reading

Our Programs

  Class times are from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM. We offer 2, 3, 4, and 5 day programs for children ages 3 to 5.  All children must be potty trained. Early Morning Care is available daily beginning at 8:15 am. An extended day program runs Monday – Thursday from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM from mid-September through mid-May.

Threes

Meets two days (Tuesday and Thursday) or

three days (Monday, Wednesday, Friday) per week

Maximum class size is 12

Should be 3 by December 31

Fours

Meets three days (Monday, Wednesday, Friday),

four days (Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday)

Maximum class size is 14

Should be 4 by December 31

Fives

 Meets five days per week

Maximum class size is 12

Prepares children for Kindergarten

Must be 5 by December 31.

Our Teachers

a

laurenLauren McQuain, Preschool Director/Ducks Teacher, is a graduate of Indiana University in Bloomington, IN with a BS in Physical Education and a minor in Special Education. She has done graduate work in Early Childhood Education at the College of William and Mary and Old Dominion University. She has taught at St. Stephen Preschool since 2003. Her daughter is a graduate of St. Stephen Preschool.

 

 

Susan Ruane, Frogs Teacher, is a graduate of Franklin Pierce College in Rindge, NH with a BA in Elementary Education and a minor in Fine Arts. She has taught at St. Stephen Preschool since 2002. She is the mother of four boys, two of whom have graduated from St. Stephen Preschool.

 

 

Christine Hanlon, Bunnies and Raccoons Teacher, is a graduate of Florida State University, with BA degrees in Multicultural/Multilingual Education – French and History. She has experience working in Special Education and general education K-5 within James City County for the past several years.  She has two children who are graduates from St. Stephen Preschool.  This is Mrs. Hanlon’s first year teaching at St. Stephen Preschool.

 

 

Amy Colafrancesco, Bears and Cubs Teacher,is a graduate of the State University of New York at Stony Brook. She is a Registered Nurse in NY and Virginia and has her Preschool Child Development Associate/CDA credential. Mrs. Colafrancesco has taught at St. Stephen Preschool since 2002. She has three children who are all graduates of St. Stephen Preschool.

 


SamSamantha Shearer, Teacher’s Assistant, attended Austin Community College in Austin, TX. She has been with the Preschool and various children’s education programs since 2008. Mrs. Shearer has two children who are graduates of St. Stephen Preschool.

 

Patty Ballentine, Music Teacher, is a graduate of the University of Virginia with a BS in Elementary Education. She taught Kindermusik at the Wilmington Music School in Delaware for nine years. She has been an early childhood music teacher at Walsingham Academy since 2002. Mrs. Ballentine has taught at St. Stephen since 2007.

 

 

 

Kelly KKelly Kirkpatrick,  Art Teacher, is a graduate of Christopher Newport University and Lenoir-Rhyne College with degrees in Sociology/Social Work and Special Education.  She has 25 years’ experience working in preschool programs in North Carolina and Tennessee. Mrs. Kirkpatrick has taught at St. Stephen Preschool since 2001.
